Bambito is located in the Highlands or Mountains of Panama in the province of Chiriqui. The first U.S. Settlers that arrived in the early 1900’s in Bambito named it “La Nueva California� (The New California) – this because they found that the climate, the beautiful land and the crops that grew in these mountainous prairies like strawberries, flowers of every color, and the green forest hills were very similar to their beloved State of California. These first settlers bought large plots of land and applied their technology expertise for forestry and agriculture which turned this already rich and fertile land into prime agricultural development. In 1911 Bambito experienced “La Fiebre de la madera�, (Forestry for Wood Boom), All of the wood used to build the Pacific-Atlantic Railroad of Panama came from Bambito. All of the wood that was used to build Military facilities by the U.S., such as Gorgas Hospital, also came from Bambito. Today Bambito is best known for it’s natural beauty, agriculture of artichokes, apples, lettuce, tomatoes, strawberries, coffee, and it is the number one producer of dairy products for the country.

This Bambito rainforest is home to felines, monkeys, wild boars, deer, armadillo, iguanas, insects, birds, reptiles, and all types of exotic wildlife. This rainforest is part of the ecological environmental highway that runs through Central America and Panama, and Bambito is definitely a gateway through this natural route.
